GERMAN CHAOS IN SOCIETY AND THE EVENTUAL RISE OF HITLER
After the Treaty of Versailles the German people were faced with many difficulties and they needed a way to resolve the problems. Hitler was able to take advantage of the chaotic state in Germany and convince the people that if he was their leader than he would make Germany a proud nation and its people would rise once again. Faced with complete desperation, the Germans looked to Hitler as their savior and allowed him to become the ‘Fuhrer.’

-Germany was forced to borrow vast sums of money from America in order to pay its war debt to England and France.
-In 1929, the United States experienced an economic depression.
-America was unable to continue lending money to Germany during the depression.
-Without the income from American loans, Germany was unable to pay its war reparations to England and France.
-The result was a severe depression in Germany.
-German money became close to worthlessàHYPER INFLATION:

December 1923: $1 US = 4,200,000,000,000
-Value of German trade with USA fell from 68 million to 10 million in one year
-Agricultural production fell about 50-70%
-Industrial output fell 40% from 1914-1918
-Many Germans believed a strong leader could return their nation to greatness.

Rise of Hitler
Hitler took advantage of all the chaos in order to bring about his ideals of Nazism and come to power. Thus, the Treaty of Versailles proved to be a failure in keeping the peace between the nations, due to Germany's resentment.
